Recap of my great birthday weekend.
Started off the weekend at Sissy's house. She did agree to be mexi ghetto and we got a TV outside and got to watch the Olympics while we were swimming and picnicking. We swam all day on Saturday and Sunday. Since it was my birthday weekend, not only did I swim, but drank Bud Lights. (I only drink for a special occasion:) After swimming, Asa and I went home to hang out and watch more Olympics with Joshua. We scraped ourselves off the couch and laid in the bedroom together and all fell asleep....watching the Olympics. I'm exhausted. So are Asa and Joshua. Joshua joked to me last night that he was excited that he was going back to work so he could get a break from the Olympics, but made sure that I would TIVO so he could watch them at a later time, and to make sure that I don't spoil any medal announcements to him until he watches.
My birthday was Monday and the plan was for Mom to babysit Asa over night so Joshua and I could go out on the town Monday night. Spur of the moment I decided that we would go out Sunday (the moment could have come because I had been drinking all afternoon and didn't want the party to stop). We couldn't have had a better time. We walked from bar to club for a few hours. The sad part is....We would sit up at the bar and strike up conversations with the bartenders and what did I talk about??? ASA!!! After partying it up in PDX for a few hours, we were ready to head home and watch the Olympics. It was after all the men's medal round for still rings.
I didn't realize how many beers were consumed the night before until the alarm woke me up at 5:45AM Monday morning.
OMG! I drug my butt into work, very hungover, on my birthday. My boss surprised me with money and flowers. That was very unexpected. After my work day which seemed like it would never end and having waves of nausea I ventured home and we all met for lunch. Our new little hot spot for Thai is in a little strip mall called
Keo Thai. Our little family was seated and in comes Sissy with balloons and
Tiramisu. She is so thoughtful and made my day very special. Of course I was spoiled by my family with gifts and cards. It was delicious and I was feeling fairly healthy after lunch and then went home to take a nap. Josh told me to have a nice nap and he would cater to Asa's needs. Didn't happen. They kept creeping into the bedroom, giggling and tickling my feet...taking my covers off...jumping onto the bed and rolling on me...I was feeling so sick and tired...I just let them abuse me. As I finally decided that it was time for me to get up, Asa came in and told me it was really boring with me. I smiled. So, in summary, I was not healthy on my birthday, but felt very special indeed.
Tuesday, Asa and I dropped off our primary ballots at the school. Of course, Asa asked what we were doing. I have kind of learned to not answer his questions with one word answers. That always ends up with many many many questions. So I preceded to tell him that voting is a responsibility of the American people to have a say in how our government is run and sends a message to our government that we have a voice..ect..ect..ect....I was really proud of my answer. Asa didn't respond. I then knew I was in trouble as he was thinking very hard about what to ask/rebuttal. (hmmm, like his sissy?) Not a word...until we got to the ballot box. He says in his loudest voice "Mum, we aren't voting for _______ are we? He's a bad guy!" Before I could say anything, he looked at the lady protecting the ballot box and said "we are voting because we are American." That was Asa's first voting experience.
After grocery shopping Tuesday, Asa had his new GI Joes in a grocery bag and it was slung over his shoulder. He ran up to the door. I was unloading groceries and said "HEY! I need some help here buddy, can you carry in a bag for me?" He looked at me and then suddenly got heavy legs and drug his feet to me with his back humped over. He grabbed the bag I had for him, slung it over his other shoulder and as he was walking I heard him muttering under his breath. I said "what?" He told me "PLEASE DON'T ASK ME THAT AGAIN...I'M REALLY TIRED!
Last night, Asa and I were laying in bed and he asks me out of the blue..."why is a fart called a fart?" I laughed and said good question, let's ask Dad for that answer. Joshua said matter of fact "it's short for flatulance". I said, "no....then it would be called a flat". LOL
It was such a great weekend and I am so blessed to have my family close and healthy. Here are some pictures from the last week or so.
Asa's first experience with the neighborhood ice cream truck. He was awestruck. I laugh every time I hear the music from the ice cream truck after Norm told me something funny. Norm said when you hear music on an ice cream truck, it means that they are out of ice cream. LOL

My angel

This is a picture from our Hadassah picnic. This is Asa's Hebrew Training Wheels class. He was so scared to be sitting up so high, I had to pin him down. You can't really tell here, but he is crying.

Posing with Daddy at the picnic

Valentina at our house. This was after her Doctors appointment. No one but Valentina can carry this look off when going to the doctor.

Gorgeous

Posing

At Asa's soccer game looking so cute.

Asa in action

Valentina is such a great sport. She loves soccer like us. She is always happy. Not always smiling, but happy.

Asa spending time with other parents at half time then with his own family.

Josh getting some cute pic's of Vali. When she poses like this, she reminds me of my Grandmother.

The opposing team were kicking our butts. We could not play offense at all, so Asa decided to protect the goal and play defense instead.

I love this picture of my boys. Including Papa in the back round. Papa looks like he tasted something really bad.

Joshua showing Asa all of the medals that he won in Tae Kwon Do Junior Olympics and competitions. Not to be confused with the Special Olympics:)

Saturday. Surprising picture of Vali with no bathing suit on. This girl has no shortage of swim wear.
I love this picture of the parents. They are holding hands watching the Olympics outside on Sissy's porch. Papa had just worked at least 12 hours that day. He is such a hard worker.

Vali into a swimming event on the TV

"please stop taking pictures Sissy, I just want to eat my lunchables in peace".

Vali's signature look as she enters the pool

What a perfect picture of our kids together.

This one is going in Asa's portfolio. He was so tired.

Lovin' the pool. He has started jumping off the ladder into the pool.

On our way to PDX for some drinking on birthday eve

The bridge was up. We had to wait about 20 minutes to cross the bridge to get to P town.

Me not caring about the bridge delay, Joshua starting to lose his patience.

Last drink of the night.

"WHAT'S TAKING SO LONG FOR MY BEER!!!!"

Monday at my Birthday lunch. I think I look pretty good for being ill. Asa looks innocent enough. He ordered for himself...."chicken on a stick..nuffin' else". The server thought he was so smart. (Another name for Chicken Satay)

I got to sit between Vali and Asa. The yummy Tiramisu that Sissy got me.

Asa's last summer game Tuesday. It started out sprinkling, and then it just poured as the game went on. Vali was so sleepy...she actually had little bags under her eyes. I don't remember her smiling once.

Asa smiling even though he is soaked. When it was his time to sit out he would NEVER sit under the umbrella. He was doing tumbling moves on the wet grass.

"May-Trainer and Walsh made it to the finals????"

The coach's mom brought all the kids goodie bags and a cupcake cake made to look like a soccer ball.

The Blue Bird team.

WOW!! LOVED all the pictures! You are really giving Cameo a run for her money on my favorite blog site! heehee
Oh and I absolutely LOVED the Asa voting story! "We are voting cause we are Americans!" If only every American would feel that way! Good for you for teaching him this young what it means to be an American! No wonder Jesus said that we should become like little children.
LoVe You Guys!
PS
Just for Asa (and because I have WAYYYYYYYYY too much time on my hands and no life anymore now that my kids are grown) I looked up the origin of the word "fart" and why we call it that. Believe it or not, I found a site that claims to know. You can find ANYTHING on the internet!! Here is the site: http://www.heptune.com/farts.html
SO...next time Asa asks you can have the real answer ready for him thanks to Auntie Lori! heehee
Love you guys!
I love all the pictures!!! (except the one of me) I cannot believe you posted that one! Really cute pictures and stories!
Happy Birthday Trina. I'm so glad you had such a wonderful Birthday weekend. You got to do what you love to do, hang out with Josh and be surrounded by your family.
