Where's my Spider Man Shoes?

I had my dear Vali on Thursday. We usually do some shopping and that day was no exception. I was on a mission to find Asa some new tennis shoes and get Vali some cute little pink or white tennis shoes too.

Every fall, he gets a new pair of cute little Nike's that usually look like dads. Every year, Asa always asks for some commercial plastic tennis shoe, ie. Transformers, Thomas the Train, Superman etc....but since they are not my favorite I usually say "I don't think they have your size sweety". It's not a complete fib, however I don't actually LOOK for his size in those shoes.

We arrived at the shoe aisle. It is a bookcase type aisle with the top is lined with the model shoes. Vali is in the cart (locked in securely, she is an escape artist) and Asa gets busy looking for shoes. He pulls down some adorable green and white Nikes and starts looking for his size 10. He can read the numbers and knows how to pull the box out for his size. I'm looking at others for his and Vali has already pulled every shoe off the shelf within her reach. I figure she can't get into any more trouble and let her be. Our of the corner of my eye, there were some shoe boxes with Spider Man pictures all over them. I took in a small breath, hoping so badly that Asa wouldn't see them. He was pretty involved in trying on other shoes. I check in on Vali and she has pulled out a couple of shoe boxes, ripped out the paper from the shoe box and is pulling tiny pieces off and eating it. I gasped and she just looked at me and smiled. I figure, she's happy and a little paper isn't going to hurt her. Then I hear Asa SCREAM "MUMMA, SPIDER MAN SHOES!!!! WITH LIGHTS" Oh no.....he had pulled the model shoe from the shelf. "Mumma, I have always wanted them. I LOVE THEM, please buy me these shoes, PLEASE, I LOVE THEM!!". He had the most angelic face looking at me. I said "they are pretty cute, but I don't think they have your size". He said "awwww". I checked in on Vali, and yup, still eating paper and looking very content. I hear boxes falling down and Asa is tugging at a spider man box. "MUMMA, HERE'S a SIZE 10!!! Just my SIZE!!!". He got them on in record time, on the wrong foot of course, and started running the length of the aisle. He turned around and came up to me again with the angelic face and told me "they make me run fast mom, they are comfortable and my toes come to here" he points. He has his first pair of Spider Man shoes. Valentina? She got Disney Princess Plastic light up shoes too:)

Yesterday, Asa and I took a trip to the library. I was on the hunt for a birthday party kids cook book. Anyone know of one? Asa's birthday is the end of the month and I'm in a quandary of what to make for dinner. Kid friendly with out it being chicken strips, mac and cheese or pizza. ((shudder)). The librarian thought that Asa was so cute asking where the "submarine, FA-18 fighter jet and destroyer ship books are?". She took him by the hand and they walked to a huge area. There were big picture books and Asa started pulling them out one by one....about 25. "I want that one and that one and that one".....He just sat at a table for about and hour and looked at his books and I was able to read cookbooks. I love cookbooks, I don't usually cook from them, but I love the pictures and reading ingredients. We had such a good time and he was surprised that we didn't need a a debit card at the counter when we checked out books.

One last Asa story;) Asa loves school buses and until about 6 months ago, was excited to start school and ride one. Since then, he says he wants to stay with me forever. We were driving to the library and he saw a bus. I told him when he was ready, he could ride one to school someday. "no mum, I want to stay with you for 1000 hours....no, I want to stay with you for 30 thousand hours...no, I ACTUALLY want to stay with you for 20 hundred hours".

Last night the 7 of us went dining AL Fresco. It was a beautiful afternoon/evening and of course was a great way to kick off our weekend. Another fun filled weekend for us.

Tomorrow will be our 1 week anniversary:) I wonder if my man will remember....

You are a better mom than me! You know how I am about kids shoes, and that's a war I would have won. ;~) I don't have to argue with the little ones much, but Jordan was another matter.....so we just named the plastic shoes "cheap shoes" and they will hurt your feet, and make them grow funny. LOL I laughed out loud when Asa said those shoes made him run faster.....why do kids think the shoes make them run faster? What's sad is I wouldn't let them wear the plastic shoes, but I have come around to letting them walk out of the house in shorts and rubber boots...sometimes.....pick your battles huh?
