OLYMPICS OVERLOAD

Boy, has our family been enjoying the Olympics. Sunday, after the 14th hour of viewing pleasure, I was starting to get couch sores. So we retired to the bedroom. This is our first time watching the Olympics with Asa. Asa memorizes names pretty quick. His favorite sport to watch so far has been volleyball. (Joshua especially enjoys the women's beach). Asa yells out "GO PHIL DAHLHAUSSER, GO TODD ROGERS!! When Bob Costas reports Asa yells "THERE'S BOB COSTAS" During the individual events, like diving or swimming, he is especially vocal.

Asa -"Who is that?"

T - "Chinese"

Asa - "Why are they Chinese?"

T - "Because they are from China"

Asa- "Why are they from China?"

T - "Because that is where they were born"

Asa - "Why were they born in China? "

T - "Because that is where their parents are from"

Asa - "Why are their parents from China?"

This goes on for every person that competes. I feel like I'M in the Explanation Olympics.

I have been notified that my son is on his way to G'dale with BeyaPapa. That leaves me wide open for a nap, catch up on some TIVO and wash my floors. In that order. Not sure if I'll have enough time for the floors...so sad.

Asa had his second dentist appointment ever yesterday. The first one about 6 months ago did not go well. He screamed and the only thing the dentist got to do was count his teeth. I was really worried that he would have bad memories of the last visit, but he told me he didn't remember it...whew. This time he laid on the chair and was stiff as a board the entire time. He did..not.. move. There was a girl screaming deep in the back round in another room, so the assistant was trying to make conversation the entire time with Asa. I was so proud of him. No cavities, healthy teeth and Asa said that the cleaning gel tasted like candy. I was so relieved. Kudos to the staff. Asa can't wait to go back and get a bagful of goodies.

Yesterday....I had to kill the biggest, creepiest spider I have ever seen, other than in a zoo. NO JOKE! After living on my own, I had to learn to kill spiders. It was rough, but I take pride in myself that I have been brave. All you others with spider phobias know that you don't want to smash a spider as it will crunch, or leave a mess on the floor. This spider was over 2 inches in diameter with huge curled up legs and it had pincher's on it's head. After seeing it, I froze. I didn't want to scare Asa. After it started running away from me, I did freak out and kept screaming. Asa was behind me crying and yelling for us to go into the bedroom. I yelled at Asa to find the fly swatter. He got it for me, still crying. I didn't want to smash it, as for reasons explained above, but I did. It just laid there all curled up. I went to get a paper to scrape it onto, and gave instructions for Asa to keep an eye on it. As I was frantically looking for something to scoop him up on, Asa yelled at me "it's MOVING!". I screamed, he started crying. I ran in and smashed him again. This time he stuck to the fly swatter which freaked me out even more. Asa and I both ran into the bathroom and I flicked the spider into the toilet. Asa flushed immediately, and as the toilet started to flush, the spider came alive and tried to climb out. It finally did go down. Asa said that it went into the sewer with all the poo. Needless to say, we were kind of jumpy after and we did sit on the bed for a while.

I have a major spider phobia as well. They totally freak me out!! I do try to stay calm when the girls are in the room. I won't go near the thing if Erik is home. But when he is working I have to be brave and do it myself. I never know which spiders are poisoness I would hate to have the girls get bit. I would have been screaming with a spider like the one you told about. You should be glad you didn't have it on the paper when it came alive. That would have been horrible!! Love you!

Oh, I feel your pain with all the questions. Amelia's thing is "Cause Why".
I will answer her and I get another "Cause Why?" This goes on until I say, "I don't know." So now when I ask her something she will say, "I don't know" Do you see a cycle going on here???

Your spider story had me laughing so hard. Picturing you two screaming and crying. Between the two of you, you got that strange spider. I don't think I have ever saw a spider like that.

And way to go Asa with your dentist appointment. Keep up the good work.

We arent fans of spiders here either, Amanda and I have a "System" for spiders, tho. If dad isnt around to take care of it, that is. Usually, it goes something to the effect of her 'borrowing' my shoe(which is still attached to my foot)...I think you can picture the rest.

Of course, mom had to go and "Find" her a spider this afternoon...just after reading your post...

We always enjoy reading "Asa" stories....glad he had a good dentist visit....

Hope you all are enjoying the sun!

~Christina, for all
